This new Hillsboro public art piece is given to honor Michael R. Smith for his service in and for the public libraries of Washington County from 1974 to 2014. Mike was a manager, administrator, innovator, builder, mentor and friend, as well as the Hillsboro Public Library Director from 2008 to 2014. The mural, located in the children's area of the Library, features an exuberant design that reflects the free flight of a child's imagination when exploring the world through books. Artistic themes from multi-cultural folk tales are interspersed with the north woods landscape. Renowned artist Angelina Marino Heidel will talk about the painting at the dedication.
