Event Description:

Future Trends of Print Media in Hillsboro and Beyond

With the advent of social media and information readily available at your fingertips, the print media industry is rapidly changing. How do newspapers stay relevant in the age of instant communication?

On February 10th, join Hillsboro Tribune Publisher John Schrag, Suburban/Regional Manager of The Oregonian Media Group, Tom Maurer and Managing Editor Suzanne Stevens of the Portland Business Journal as we delve into future trends in media and how this will impact local business.

JOHN SCHRAG

John Schrag is the publisher of the Hillsboro Tribune, a weekly community newspaper paper that debuted in August 2012, and the News-Times, a 126-year-old weekly paper based in Forest Grove that has been named Oregon’s best small weekly paper four times in the past nine years. Prior to taking that post in February 2005, he worked for 14 years at Willamette Week in Portland.

TOM MAURER

Tom Maurer is the Suburban/Regional Manager of The Oregonian Media Group, which also owns and operates the Hillsboro Argus, the Forest Grove Leader, and the Beaverton Leader in Washington County. Maurer oversees the news operations of those three newspapers as well as news coverage throughout Washington County and Clackamas County for The Oregonian/Oregonlive.com. In addition, Maurer has led coverage on five other projects that were nominated for Pulitzer Prize consideration.

SUZANNE STEVENS

Suzanne was promoted from digital managing editor to editor of the Portland Business Journal in March 2014. She has been with the company since 2010. Prior to the Business Journal, Suzanne spent seven years as a senior editor at The Deal in New York, where she wrote about and hosted a Web program focused on corporate mergers and acquisitions. Suzanne also spent time as an associate editor at Oregon Business Magazine and 12 years working in public radio in Kentucky and North Carolina, where she was a frequent contributor to National Public Radio.
