Celebrating our Future Leaders- Leadership Hillsboro Graduation
For over 30 years, Leadership Hillsboro has continued to excel at producing leaders in the community. For the past nine months, each dedicated Leadership participant spent time learning more about Hillsboro and what makes our great community tick. From public safety to education and the arts, the Leadership class finishes the program better equipped to shape Hillsboro’s tomorrow through a personal commitment to become involved in the community.
On June 9th, be one of the first to congratulate this year’s graduates at the June Forum Leadership graduation featuring an inspiring key note presentation by Det. Victor Cruz of the Hillsboro Police Department.
Growing up in Southern California, Detective Castro was exposed to the hazards of the gang culture and lifestyle. Later on, he began his law enforcement career with the Los Angeles Police Department, (LAPD), in 1994. While working with the LAPD, he worked various assignments including uniformed patrol, the gang enforcement team, then known as C.R.A.S.H, (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums), Narcotics Division, Rampart Detectives Division and the Rampart Corruption Task Force-Homicide Division. He then relocated to the Pacific Northwest and was hired by the Hillsboro Police Department in 2000. He was later promoted to the rank of Detective in the Street Crimes Unit, the Washington County Interagency Gang Enforcement Team and is currently assigned to the Hillsboro Police Youth Services Unit as a School Resource Officer/Detective.
Along with being a certified DARE, (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and G.R.E.A.T, (Gang Resistance Education And Training) instructor, Detective Castro is committed to reducing gang violence in communities through youth outreach and promoting more parental involvement.
