Awarded: 2018 Oregon Business’s 3rd Best Large Non-Profit to Work for in Oregon Adelante Mujeres is building a more just society by empowering Latina women to lead. We believe that a healthy and vibrant Latino community strengthens our society, therefore our mission is to provide holistic education and empowerment opportunities to low-income Latina women and their families, in Washington County, OR., to ensure full participation and active leadership in the community. Latina women, when empowered, will provide leadership in their families and in our community that is rooted in strength, resolve, inclusivity, and nourishment. Since our founding in 2002, we have worked with over 10,000 Latino families, offering comprehensive, life-changing services. Because we believe that all people have the innate capacity for growth and transformation, we serve families through culturally-competent education and microenterprise programs, including: Adult and Early Childhood Education, Chicas Youth Development, ESPERE Violence Reduction, Empresas Small Business Development, Sustainable Agriculture, and the Forest Grove Farmers Market/Nourish the Community. Quality education is a fundamental right of all people and a prerequisite to an engaged community. Our programs provide the tools of education, combined with healing and leadership skills, to ensure the social-emotional and educational well-being of the whole individual. Adelante Mujeres Statement on the Crisis in Israel/Palestine: At Adelante Mujeres, we believe everyone has a responsibility to cultivate a peaceful community and a healthy planet. As an organization that focuses on the Latine and immigrant community in Oregon, we approach this matter with humility and hope, and acknowledge we are not experts on global issues. However, the continued systematic destruction in the Gaza Strip deeply affects us. We feel grief and despair when we see reflections of our own families in the faces of those experiencing horrific violence. These tragic human rights violations and crimes against humanity are unacceptable. We must take a stance. Adelante Mujeres would like to join other organizations, community members, and allies to demand a prompt and immediate ceasefire in Gaza. We will work internally and with our community to educate ourselves on these issues while combating antisemitism and Islamophobia. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.” All of us have the right to feel safe. All of us deserve dignity, security, and wellbeing, and those are things that no war, let alone genocide, can achieve. Stand with us by reaching out to Congress today, urging them to endorse a ceasefire.
